While variants of its core technologies existed earlier, the Z-110 Boltshot truly came into prominence around two centuries before the firing of the
Halo Array. The Boltshot is a close-range particle dilator optimized for infantry combat against organic tissue, such as the FCS (Flood Super Cell) material which formed the basis of the
Flood parasite.
The
UNSC has encountered multiple functionality settings within the core Z-110 design. When burst-fire is initiated, the Z-110 releases an overloaded dispersal of ionized particles to devastate enemy infantry. Further encounters with the weapon have revealed an advanced tracking function that allows the Boltshot’s projectiles to home in on targets.
During the last ages before the firing of the Array, a Promethean Warrior-Servant named Endurance-of-Will was known to carry two highly advanced and customized Z-110’s, named Open Hand and Closed Fist. How their technical specifications made their way into UNSC War Games designers’ simulation repertoire remains a closely guarded secret among
ONI personnel.
